Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow to conduct research on household food security, nutrition and poverty in support of regional and country development strategies. The fellow will develop a cross-divisional research program to search for policy options and to design strategies to improve household welfare with an emphasis on food and nutrition security in developing countries. More specifically, the fellow will develop and coordinate the following research and outreach activities to:

1.support country strategy support programs in designing household surveys in collaboration with national statistical agencies
2.conduct research to analyze policy options to improve household welfare and integrate research to support national strategy development on food and nutrition security, and
3.stregnthen capacity of national researchers in conducting research.

The position is a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment, based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC. The final grade level will be determined by demonstrated experience and track record of publications.

Essential Duties:
Specific responsibilities include:
• designing and implementing interdisciplinary policy research and analysis;
• building IFPRI’s capacities, partnerships and networks for this work;
• publishing the results of research in international academic journals; and
• identifying and cultivating donor interest in this work, and writing proposals for funding.


Required Skills:
• Ph. D in development economics, agricultural economics, or closely related field
• Experience in research on household analysis
• Strong team-building skills
• Ability to work across disciplines
• Excellent written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background in the field of development policy
•Knowledge of the relevant literature and experience in the empirical analysis of gender and intrahousehold allocation in developing countries
• Familiarity with, and, interest in qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis
• Fluency in Spanish or French
